Anticipation of a burst of progress

Following a long late-night MIG welding session on Tuesday, I took the various steel supports and brackets to the local galvanizing company yesterday morning. If I’m lucky, I should be able to collect them tomorrow, and spend tomorrow evening painting them, then a happy weekend bolting cold bits of metal together in a partly open-sided barn in cold misty weather should get the vehicle from having only front bodywork and a bare chassis at the back, to having about half or more of the bodywork in place.

The layer of paint on top of the galvanizing should help it to last even longer, and in particular will help to keep steel and aluminium apart, thus avoiding electrolytic corrosion. In most of these locations, the paint doesn’t have much “cosmetic” value; it’s really just a protective layer that happens to be coloured.
