Geeknic and hills

I went to a geeknic for the first time, yesterday in Dublin. It was good to meet up for general nerdy discussions and good company…

Dublin’s a fair way to go (from the other side of Ireland) for an afternoon’s event, so instead of getting the train up for the day, I drove to Wicklow the day before, and camped for the night. I’d heard that Wicklow has beautiful scenery, but on my way there I only found one outstanding part, the Wicklow Gap On the whole, I decided, I prefer Kerry, Connemara and the North Tipperary hills.

Then, on my way to the geeknic, I took a detour via the Sally Gap, expecting it to be similar, but it was far, far better. And I was very impressed by all the cyclists going up and down the hills!

Glad you were able to make it to the Geeknic! I’d have loved to go, unfortunately it was clashing with PyCon Ireland. I’ll make it to the next one instead πŸ™‚ Looking forward to people posting up pictures in the meantime πŸ˜‰

Glad you enjoyed PyCon! I quite forgot to take any photos myself, but I see that Laura has put a few up.

As you can see, I at last got round to making and wearing a silly hi-vis shirt — the letting says “COVERT OPS” in big obvious lettering on a bright background (it’s bigger on the back of the shirt) — referring back to the “I’ll get my coat” series of signoffs on The Register — I used something “Mine’s the one with COVERT OPS in large letters on Hi-Vis” when someone like MI5 / MI6 had done something particularly daft (probably leaving laptops on trains). Then I thought I should make one πŸ™‚
